Emergency Management Structure and Approach

Our operations are rooted in the four main pillars of emergency management: mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. In addition to these practices, we put a great deal of focus on developing the resources we need to better action these pillars. This includes continuously seeking opportunities for additional equipment, training and improving community relations. We are passionate about the area and the people that we serve.

All-Hazards Risk Assessment: Proactive and Reactive

A major component of what Saskatchewan First Nations Emergency Management’s responsibilities is in All-Hazards Risk Assessment. This is an integration that enables us to identify, analyze and prioritize threats to the community—both intentional and unintentional. This is an important component as it allows communities to mitigate potential risks before, during and after they occur. Reducing harm and damage to our community is a priority.

Fire Department Operations and Assessments

We work with communities to provide education in fire risk mitigation, safety and emergency response plans. Providing these workshops and programs allows us to help individuals be better prepared if a fire emergency occurs—ensuring that they are able to stay safe until emergency response crews can arrive on the scene. We also provide firefighting training to communities so that, once firefighters are on-site, they can efficiently neutralize the threat.

An Organization Strengthened by Our Community

We are able to provide assistance to First Nation communities through training in preparation and response to emergencies in their area. This is often accomplished by leveraging the support of the community and partner organizations. Over the years, and several instances of our activities, we have been able to build strong relationships with the First Nations bands in our community. This has helped us a great deal in being able to ensure expedient and reliable responses to various emergency situations.
