Fire Department & Firefighter Training

Fire Safety and Firefighter Training

One of the key focuses of Saskatchewan First Nations Emergency Management is towards firefighter training and fire safety workshops. These are essential in mitigating and preventing fire emergencies in First Nation communities.

Fire Department & Firefighter Training

Essential Fire Training

Many First Nation communities don’t have active fire departments on reserve. This leaves them without a 24/7 hub of expertise and response capabilities to emergencies in their lands. SFNEM works on building capacity in each community to help bands take on more responsibilities before, during and after emergency situations. We accomplish this through support MOUs and sitting on PMT committees in the community.

Fire Training

The prevention of fires is one of the most effective pieces of education we can provide to our communities. If we can share training and best practices for fire prevention, paired with the lessons we’ve learned through our experiences, then we will be able to increase awareness of potentially harmful or dangerous situations. By working with schools and bands, we continuously work to build education around fire safety and prevention. Through these programs, we are also able to train individuals and families on how they should be responding when a fire emergency breaks out to reduce injury or property damage.

 Firefighter Training

Being able to increase a community’s ability to combat fires is critical to the success of their responses. Working in remote locations means that personnel can be limited. The more we can train new firefighters or volunteers, the greater our odds of successfully putting out fires will be for at-risk communities. We are able to provide or organize firefighting training for First Nation communities and neighbouring organizations so that everyone can have ample training in fire prevention and combat.

Continuously Improving Our Training

Our office is continually receiving training so that we can bring more programs and services to the people we serve. With each challenge we face, we are able to find new opportunities to adapt to what the communities need and request before, during and after an emergency. By working closely with band members and leadership, we can create real change for their communities. As we continue to provide our programs, these community relationships prove to be invaluable in their success and development.
